Pomona

Monica Raspi

Società Agricola Pomona

I am Monica Raspi, and I have chosen to make wine.

Since 1991, I have lived in Pomona, a small area in Castellina in Chianti, in the most traditional, local, and (for me) familiar heart of Chianti Classico.

I am a veterinarian by profession. However, in 2007, I decided to close my practice, pick up an enology textbook, and get on my tractor.

Pomona Farm is my land, my winery, and my arena for action (and experimentation).

The choice to care for Pomona’s land is still one of the craziest, most wonderful decisions I have ever made.

The vineyard covers 6 hectares, and I only need to cross the road to reach it. So, I let the grass grow between the rows, practice green manuring, sow clover and barley, and gently breathe in what will go into the bottle.

The ridge has an eastern exposure, the altitude reaches 350 meters above sea level, and the surrounding forest, plants, and streams mitigate the temperatures.

“Making Chianti Classico means communicating not only the value but also the flavor of the Sangiovese grape. Transferring the daily soul of the wine to the drinker: to drink and to be drunk.”
We rely on the principles of organic farming, certified since 2012, for agronomic management.
